A Class Act - Aberdeenshire UNISON celebrates the “unsung heroes” in our schools

On Friday 29th November the Branch will be celebrating all school support staff, as part of UNISON’s National Day of Celebration for Pupil Support Assistants.

The Branch will work in partnership with Meldrum Academy and for the whole of the previous week, the school will be holding special assemblies as part of that celebration.

UNISON will provide the refreshments for a special celebration at tea break in Meldrum Academy on Friday, the National Day of Celebration.

Susan Kennedy, Assistant Branch Secretary and herself a Pupil Support Assistant (PSA) said, “Our children’s education matters. Classroom assistants, technicians, administration, clerical and other support staff, many of them UNISON members, play a vital role in delivering that education, yet they remain unsung heroes in our education system.

“Most teachers and parents recognise that schools could not function as well as they do without school support staff. PSAs support our most vulnerable young people in the classroom, but all support staff are a vital part of our education team in schools.

“That’s why we are taking a day, 29 November, to highlight what a great job they do.”
